A Dog Friendly Restaurant Is Also a Training Opportunity
Taking your dog to a restaurant isn't just about finding a patio that allows dogs.
Your dog needs to be ready for the experience.
Restaurants can have people walking past, servers carrying food, children, other dogs, dropped food, loud noises and dozens of other distractions.
A dog that's ready for restaurant outings should ideally be able to:
• Walk calmly through the restaurant's outdoor area
• Settle quietly beside or underneath your table
• Ignore other dogs
• Ignore people walking past
• Remain calm when a server approaches
• Avoid begging or trying to grab dropped food
• Respond to you despite distractions
One of the biggest misconceptions about socializing a dog is that socialization means your dog needs to meet everyone.
It doesn't.
One of our goals at Zero To Sit Dog Training is teaching your dog that you are the most important thing in their environment.
A properly socialized dog should be able to experience people, dogs, sounds, smells and other distractions without feeling the need to interact with everything around them.
Use Flagler Beach as a Real World Training Environment
One of the advantages of living in Flagler Beach is that you have an incredible variety of real world environments for practicing obedience.
Instead of your dog only listening inside your living room, imagine being able to practice:
Heel while walking along A1A.
Place while relaxing at an outdoor restaurant.
Sit and Stay with people walking nearby.
Recall around appropriate distractions.
Neutrality when another dog passes.
Let's Go during a relaxed beach walk.
These are the situations where training becomes more than simply teaching commands.
Training becomes a way to give you and your dog more freedom to experience life together.
